The Passing of
Galileo
Today marks the anniversary of
the passing, in 1642, of Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaulti de Galilei. His accolades
including the father of observational astronomy, he is probably second best
known for his disputes late in life with the Roman Inquisition and his work on

A recent book
on his trial before the Roman Inquisition is Maurice A. Finocchiaro, On
Trial For Reason: Science, Religion, and Culture in the Galileo Affair.
